May security patch for Pixel and Nexus devices is now available

Google has delivered the May security patch for its Nexus and Pixel branded devices. The latest factory images and OTA files for the Pixel/Pixel XL, Nexus 6/6P, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X, Pixel C, and Nexus Player have been released.

Theres currently no information on when the actual OTA roll out will begin, although that shouldnt take long given that update files are now available for download. But if youre in a rush, head to the Source links below to manually update your device.

Verizon offering 290 discount on Google Pixel and Pixel XL

If you are a Google fan in the US heres a deal for you: Verizon is offering the standard Pixel for $360, while the XL variant is being offered for $480.

That translates into a discount of around $290 for each device.

While the deal sounds enticing, there are a few details that you should be aware of. Firstly, the deal is only available to those on Verizons Unlimited Plan (both new and existing customers eligible). And secondly, the discount will be applied over the course of 24 months - yes, youll have to purchase the unit on its financing plan.

HTC drops HTC 10 price in India

HTC has announced a price drop for the HTC 10 in India. The phone was launched back in April for INR 52,990 ($795) but the price has now been slashed down to INR 47,990 ($720).

Even with the price cut, the HTC 10 is still more expensive than its rivals. Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 are available for significantly less, not to mention phones like the OnePlus 3 that are not even in the same price category.

HTC has consistently priced its products out of contention in India. Perhaps this is a good time to take a long hard look at its product strategy unless it wants to go back to being a full time OEM for other companies.

Honor to launch 4 new devices on May 23

Earlier today Honor sent out press invites for an upcoming May 23 event where four new devices will be launched. The invite, starring a joyful student divided between the choice of football field or the classroom, roughly reads “4 new devices, built for fun and party”, implying they will be in the affordable spectrum.

The image also says the phones released will be good for one-handed mobile gaming but will also be good enough for the classroom, or at least thats what we could gather from the machine translation.

One of the phones we could see is the Honor 6A that might be a more affordable version of the Honor 6C. Everyone is expecting the Huawei subsidiary to launch the next flagship the Honor 9 and while a European launch was confirmed for June 27, the 9 might make an appearance at the Chinese event as well.

Open sales of the Honor 5C are now live in India

Back in April, Huawei, or rather its sub-brand Honor, added an interesting new offers to its device lineup - the Honor 5C. Now, after a couple of quite successful flash sales events, users in India can pick up the device from either the official Honor store or Flipkart with no need for a prior registration.

Priced at just INR 10,999 (about $160), the Honor 5C, available in Grey, Silver and Gold is a pretty attractive offer, even more so, since Flipkart has an old phone buyback program for a discount of up to INR 10,000.

That price tag gets you a 5.2-inch IPS LCD panel with FullHD resolution, an in-house Kirin 650 chipset with an octa-core CPU (4xCortex-A53@2.0GHz + 4xCortex-A53@1.7GHz), paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Imaging is taken care by a 13MP primary shooter with an f/2.0 lens, aided in the dark by a single LED flash. On the front you get an 8MP cam with an f/2.0 aperture lens.

The handset measures 147.1 x 73.8 x 8.3mm and weighs 156g, while packing a 3,000mAh battery, it also has dual-SIM support, Cat.6 LTE. Bluetooth is v4.1, theres Wi-Fi b/g/n (no Wi-Fi ac), GPS, GLONASS and Beidou for satellite positioning and theres also an FM radio receiver.

Last, but not least, there is also a fingerprint reader on the back, although, sadly, not on EU markets, which the Honor 5C hit just recently. It is also worth noting that both offers are for the LTE-enabled variant - a necessary clarification, as there is also a cheaper 3G model in existence.

How to reset engineering mode settings back to defaults on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 First thing youll need to do is to download and install ES Explorer or Root Explorer on your phone. Next enter the phone root memory using the downloaded file explorer (root access is required) and go to the /data/nvram/APCFG/ folder (on some other ROMs it could be /nvdata/APCFG/APRDCL). Open the "APRDCL" folder. Copy and backup this folder to the SD-card, your PC or any other device. Its recommended to do these steps in "Airplane mode", or this could lead to IMEI loss. Next we delete the "APRDCL" folder and then restart our phone. Open the engineering mode menu after phone restarts. All settings should be changed back to defaults. The deleted folder will be restored after restart. Please note that youre doing everything at your own risk, and were not responsible for any damage done to your device.
