Jio and Samsung join forces to expand coverage to 90 of India population

Reliance Jio is one of the fastest-growing companies in India, and Samsung Electronics logically decided to work together with the telecom outside of the smartphone market. The Korean company announced partnership with Jio to upgrade the current LTE services across India, expanding both the capacity and the network coverage.

Samsung and Jio are utilizing spectrum in the 850, 1800 and 2300 MHz bands, enabling seamless coverage in dense urban areas. The project, named “I&G (Infill & Growth) Project” will also expand Jio’s coverage in the rural zones to over 90% of the population of India.

Samsung is providing the base stations and all the equipment needed for VoLTE services to help Jio expand its business. The Indian company boasted about successfully achieving 100 million subscribers in 6 months, making them “the fastest-growing company in the world”. Its South Korean part ner said both companies will “strive to create new paradigms for LTE and 5G”.

Reaching rural areas and expanding current network coverage is an endeavor all telecoms and tech companies should seek in the foreseeable future since the internet has already turned into a commodity and not a luxury.
